About Your Character:
Character: Cho Chang
Age: 19
Brief Physical Description: Cho is a petite girl of Chinese heritage, with short dark brown hair and brown eyes. She smiles a lot and dresses in bright colors, being a generally cheerful person. She’s a little shorter than average and very slender, an all-around unimpressive looking person.
PB: Charlene Choi
Brief Personality Description: Cho is a very emotional person, given to mood swings and grudges and over-reactions. Not to a mentally-ill degree, she just doesn’t have a whole bunch of self-control. She’s happy when she’s happy, she’s sad when she’s sad, and she has a pretty long memory. She holds grudges and she can get into real deep melancholy funks.
Cho is also very loyal, though. She’s tenacious as a bulldog when she gets her teeth into something. She’s the type of perfectionist that likes to research everything to the nines and figure out every angle and detail before implementing anything. She’s not very good at plans, as a result – about the opposite of a tactical mind. A real ‘can’t see the forest for the trees’ type.
Cho is a basically friendly person. She likes everyone she comes across, until she has a reason not to like them. She tries to be a people-person but over-reacts to things too easily to ever be an effective diplomat.
Affiliation: Non-Order resistance
Brief History: Cho was born to a wizarding family. Her mother was from an established family, but her father’s history had a great degree of mixing between muggles and wizards. Of eight great-grandparents, five were muggles, thus he didn’t meet the pure-blood standards when Voldemort took over the ministry and was termed a half-blood. Cho was one year old at this point, and to keep her family together Mrs. Chang took her husband’s social caste and they were forced to live in sub-standard housing, could only hold menial jobs, and basically lived as the intended sub-standard caste. They tried to shield Cho as much as possible from the worst of it, and she lived as normal a childhood as possible. She had other half-blood friends, she learned her basics of reading and magic from her mother, and she played and was basically a cheerful child.
When she was 10, Cho’s father was attacked in a hate-crime that left him so badly beaten he almost died. He was rushed to St. Mungo’s, but he received second-rate care from a separate clinic that was underfunded, overcrowded, and staffed by undertrained and overworked half-blood healers. They did their best for Mr. Chang and did save his life, but he lost an eye and partial use of one leg. Cho’s parents decided to get out of London. There were several groups around the country of muggle-born and half-blood wizards who lived illegally as muggles in the mundane world. They kept mundane jobs and didn’t use magic outside of the home or tell anyone about their heritage except the other wizards and witches in hiding with them. The Changs found one such community on the southern coast of England and hid there, and Cho learned all of her magical knowledge from her mother while attending high school as a muggle.
But she wasn’t content. Between her father’s lingering injuries serving as a constant reminder of the injustices in wizarding England and the stories and inflammatory talk of the other wizards in their secret community, she was dead-set on doing something about it. Upon turning 17 she left home against her parents’ wishes and used some contacts from her friends to try and get into the resistance movement. It took a few tries, as at first she could only find other groups who were interested only in hiding, evading the Ministry, and helping people get out of the country. She spent the better part of a year helping discovered muggle-borns get a handle on their magic and either smuggled out of the country or placed in communities like the ones her parents lived in. But it wasn’t enough for her and eventually she found her way into a group that called itself ‘The White Rose.’ (Named for another organization that resisted Hitler’s government during WWII) They mostly planned and plotted, but did managed the occasional raid on Ministry operations. With almost 50 members in about 7 cells around the country, they’re one of the larger groups in the country and while they don’t have the notoriety of the Order they managed to be a rather annoying thorn in the government’s side. They have a revolving membership, as people keep joining, but at about the same rate that others die or get captured.
In a world were James Potter lived and Lily and Harry Potter died, where Voldemort rules from the Ministry, how do you see your character fitting? She is dead-set against the Ministry. She fits basically anywhere that causes Voldemort trouble.
